John Dewey

John Dewey (1859–1952) was an American philosopher, educator, and psychologist and one of the leading figures of pragmatism. He taught at the University of Michigan, the University of Chicago, and Columbia University in New York, among other institutions. At the University of Chicago, he founded a laboratory school where he put his experience-based educational principles into practice. Dewey advocated democratic, action-oriented education. His best-known works include “Democracy and Education” (1916) and “Experience and Education” (1938).
