John Berger

John Berger (1926–2017) was a British writer, painter and art critic. He studied drawing and painting and initially worked as a painter and teacher of drawing. In 1972, he received the Booker Prize for his first novel; he donated half of the prize money to the Black Panther Party. He also became internationally known for the television series and book »Ways of Seeing«, which had a lasting influence on how art was viewed. His other notable works include »A Seventh Man«, »Why Look at Animals?«, and numerous essays, poems and novels.
