Johannes Varwick

Johannes Varwick studied political science and law in Münster and Leeds. From 1999 to 2000, he worked at the research institute of the German Council on Foreign Relations, followed by a position at the University of the German Federal Armed Forces in Hamburg until 2003. He then held professorships in political science at the universities of Kiel (2003–2009) and Erlangen-Nuremberg (2009–2013). In 2013, he took up the chair of international relations and European politics at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg. He served as president of the German Society for Security Policy from 2019 to 2021 and became presiding officer of the Scientific Forum for International Security (WIFIS) in 2024.
