Joel F. Harrington

Joel F. Harrington is a historian of European history who was a professor at Vanderbilt University. His research focuses on the social history of the Reformation and early modern Germany. He taught in North America and Europe and was, among other positions, a fellow of the American Academy in Berlin and a visiting professor in Cambridge and at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. His books include The Unwanted Child (2009), an award-winning study of foundlings, orphans, and juvenile offenders in the early modern period, as well as Die Ehre des Scharfrichters (2014) and Meister Eckart (2021).
