Joan Aiken

Joan Aiken (1924–2004) was a British writer. She worked for organizations including the BBC and the United Nations before publishing her first children’s book in 1960. She became particularly known for “The Wolves of Willoughby Chase,” the first book in the twelve-part “Wolves of Willoughby” series. Aiken wrote historical novels, thrillers, and numerous books for children and young adults, publishing more than one hundred books in total. Her work received, among other honors, the Edgar Allan Poe Award, and she was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire for her contributions to children’s literature.
