Joachim Fest (1926–2006) was a German historian, author, and journalist. He worked for newspapers and broadcasters, became editor-in-chief of NDR in 1963, and headed the television magazine “Panorama” in 1965–66. From 1973 to 1993, he was publisher of the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.” His 1973 biography of Adolf Hitler was translated into more than 20 languages. His other works include “Speer” (1999), “The Downfall” (2002), “Begegnungen” (2004), and “Ich nicht” (2006). In 1981, he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Stuttgart.
