Joachim Bauer

Joachim Bauer, born in 1951, is a physician, neuroscientist and psychotherapist. After studying medicine, he worked in molecular and neurobiological research, including as a project leader in collaborative research centres funded by the German Research Foundation and at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York. His research initially focused on immune-system genes and later on gene regulation in the central nervous system. Bauer was a specialist in internal medicine and psychiatry and held postdoctoral qualifications in both fields. He worked as a professor and senior physician in psychosomatic medicine at Freiburg University Medical Center and received the Organon Research Prize from the German Society for Biological Psychiatry in 1996. His nonfiction books include *The Body’s Memory*, *Why I Feel What You Feel*, *The Principle of Humanity* and *Self-Control*.
