Jess Walter, born in 1965, worked as a journalist for publications including Newsweek, The Washington Post, and the Spokesman-Review before becoming known as a writer. His first book appeared in 1995, followed by his first novel in 2001. Citizen Vince received the Edgar Allan Poe Award, and The Zero was shortlisted for the National Book Award. His other notable works include the short-story collection We Live in Water and the novel Beautiful Ruins. His books have been translated into numerous languages.
