Jerry Craft

Jerry Craft is an American author and comic-book illustrator who became a #1 New York Times bestselling writer. His graphic novel “New Kid” was the first comic book to receive the Newbery Medal for an outstanding contribution to children’s literature, and it won numerous other awards. Craft grew up in New York City’s Washington Heights neighborhood and attended a private school in Riverdale at his parents’ urging, although he had wanted to become an artist since childhood. He also co-founded the Black Comic Book Festival.
