Jeremiah Curtin

Jeremiah Curtin (1835–1906) was an American ethnographer, linguist, and translator. He worked as an ethnographer for the Smithsonian Institution, researching languages, cultures, mythologies, and oral traditions, particularly those of Indigenous peoples of North America as well as communities in Eastern Europe and Asia. Curtin knew Russian and Polish, among other languages, and translated literary and historical works. One of his notable works was “The Mongols: A History,” a study of the history of the Mongol Empire.
