Jeanne Benameur was born in Algeria in 1952 and moved to France with her family at the age of five. She studied literature in Poitiers and initially worked as a teacher. Her debut novel, “Samira des Quatre-Routes,” was published in 1992 and received the Grand Prix des Jeunes Lecteurs. Benameur wrote novels for young and adult readers, as well as plays and poetry. Her notable novels include “Les Demeurées,” which won the Prix UNICEF in 2001, “Laver les ombres,” and “Profanes,” which received the Grand Prix RTL Lire in 2013. Two of her books for young readers were published in German.
