Jean Ziegler

Jean Ziegler, born in 1934 in Thun, Switzerland, is a sociologist and author. He taught sociology at the University of Geneva and at the Sorbonne in Paris. Until 1999, he served as a member of the Swiss Federal Parliament. From 2000 to 2008, he was the UN Special Rapporteur on the right to food; from 2009 to 2019, he was vice-president of the Advisory Committee of the UN Human Rights Council. His notable books include *The Switzerland-That-Washes-Whiter*, *The Empire of Shame*, *We Let Them Starve*, *Change the World!* and *The Narrow Path of Hope*.
