Jean-Luc Nancy

Jean-Luc Nancy (1940–2021) was a French philosopher. Until his retirement, he taught philosophy at the Université Marc Bloch in Strasbourg and held visiting professorships in Berkeley, Irvine, San Diego, and Berlin. His work addressed the ontology of community, the transformation of meaning, the arts, and theories of the image, as well as political and religious questions. He also engaged extensively with German philosophy and literature and was influenced, among others, by Martin Heidegger, Georges Bataille, and Jacques Derrida.
