Jean J Rousseau

Jean-Jacques Rousseau (1712–1778), born in Geneva, was a writer, philosopher and composer and a major thinker of the Enlightenment. After attending a music school in Annecy, he worked for a time as a clerk in a cadastral office in Paris and continued his education as a self-taught scholar. His best-known works include the “Discourse on the Sciences and the Arts,” the “Discourse on the Origin and Foundations of Inequality Among Men,” “Du contrat social” (“The Social Contract”) and “Émile, or On Education.” Rousseau died in Ermenonville.
