James Sallis

James Sallis was born in Arkansas in 1944. He studied literary studies in New Orleans and worked as an editor and screenwriter. He also translated Raymond Queneau and Alexander Pushkin into English and published a biography of the writer Chester Himes. He became known particularly for his crime novels featuring the private detective Lew Griffin. In 2008, he received the German Crime Prize for his novel *Driver*.
