James Crowden

James Crowden, born in 1954, is a poet, engineer and ethnologist. After serving in the army, he travelled to the Zanskar Valley in the Himalayas in 1976 and spent the winter there. His experiences in the region shaped his interest in Buddhism and traditional agriculture. Before retiring, Crowden worked as a shepherd, forester and cider maker.
