Jacqueline van Maarsen, born in 1929, grew up in Amsterdam as the daughter of a Dutch Jewish father and a French Catholic mother. After the Second World War, she became a bookbinder. In 2012, she received the Dutch Zilveren Griffel award for her work »Je beste vriendin Anne«.
