Iwan Baan is a Dutch architectural and documentary photographer. After studying photography at the Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague, he initially worked as a documentary photographer before focusing on people in interaction with their built environment. He became known in part for his photographs of informal settlements such as Torre David in Caracas. In 2012, he received the Golden Lion for the best installation at the Venice Architecture Biennale for work related to the settlement. His photographs have been exhibited at institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Architectural Association in London and the AIA New York Center. His commissions have included work for architecture practices such as SANAA, OMA, Herzog & de Meuron, Toyo Ito, Steven Holl and Zaha Hadid.
