Ivo Andric

Ivo Andrić (1892–1975) was a Yugoslav writer and diplomat born in Bosnia. He studied Slavic studies and history in Zagreb, Vienna, Krakow and Graz before entering the diplomatic service in 1920. From 1939 to 1941, he served as Yugoslav envoy in Berlin. His major works include The Bridge on the Drina, The Viziers and Consuls, and The Woman from Sarajevo, all published in 1945. In 1961, Andrić was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature.
