Ivan Gantschev (1925–2014) was a painter and illustrator born in Bulgaria. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sofia and lived in Germany from 1967 onward. Gantschev illustrated more than 100 picture books for children and adults. In 1985, he received a gold plaque at the Biennial of Illustration Bratislava (BIB).
