Israel Meir Lau, born in 1937, is an Israeli rabbi. As a child, he experienced persecution in the Warsaw Ghetto and in Buchenwald concentration camp. After the Second World War, he went to Israel and served as the state’s Ashkenazi chief rabbi until 2003.
