Ismail Kadare

Ismail Kadare (1936–2024) was an Albanian writer. He was born in Gjirokastra in southern Albania and studied literature in Tirana and Moscow. His works have been translated into around forty languages. In 2005 he received the Man Booker International Prize, followed by the Jerusalem Prize in 2015. Kadare was also a member of the French Legion of Honour.
