Irene Ruttmann

Irene Ruttmann was born in Dresden in 1933 and grew up in Chemnitz. She studied German, English, theatre studies and art history at the universities of Leipzig, East Berlin and Frankfurt am Main, where she also earned her doctorate. She subsequently taught at Goethe University Frankfurt and worked freelance for publishers, magazines and radio. From 1980 onward, she published several books for children and young adults, including Titus kommt nicht alle Tage, which was inspired by walks along the Limes and visits to Saalburg Roman Fort. Her first novel, Das Ultimatum, was published in 2001, followed by Adèle in 2015.
