Born in Shanghai in 1935, Ingrid Noll came to Germany in 1949. She studied German and art history in Bonn and had three children. She began writing at about the age of 55, after her children had grown up. Her first novel, *Der Hahn ist tot*, was published in 1991, followed by several crime novels and short-story collections. In 2005, she received the Friedrich Glauser Honorary Award for her complete works. In 2025, she was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit.
