Ingrid Betancourt

Ingrid Betancourt, born in Bogotá in 1961, is a Colombian politician and author. She studied political science in Paris and returned to Colombia with her children in 1989. From 1994 to 1998, she served as a member of the Colombian House of Representatives. While campaigning as a presidential candidate, she was kidnapped on February 23, 2002, and freed from captivity by the FARC guerrilla group on July 2, 2008. In her first book, »Die Wut in meinem Herzen«, she wrote in part about the experience of sending her children abroad after receiving death threats.
