Ilko-Sascha Kowalczuk is a historian and writer. He grew up under the East German SED dictatorship and has published works on the history of the GDR, communism, and German reunification. His major publications include a two-volume biography of Walter Ulbricht, „Freiheitsschock“, and „Die neue Mauer“, co-written with Bodo Ramelow. His English-language book „End Game: The Revolution in East Germany 1989–2024“ was published in 2022. Kowalczuk served as a scientific adviser to the management of the DDR Museum in Berlin.
