Ilan Pappe, born in Haifa in 1954, studied in Jerusalem and received his doctorate from the University of Oxford. He taught political science at the University of Haifa and served as director of the Givat Haviva Peace Research Institute. His career included a professorship in history at the University of Exeter, where he was also associated with the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies and the European Centre for Palestine Studies. Pappe is regarded as one of the so-called New Israeli Historians. He has written more than a dozen books, including *The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine*. In 2017, he received the Middle East Monitor Lifetime Achievement Award at the Palestine Book Awards.
