Horst Bieber (1942–2020) was a German crime writer. He studied history, philosophy and German literature and began his journalistic career at a daily newspaper in Essen. He later worked on the editorial staff of the weekly newspaper DIE ZEIT. Bieber initially wrote historical nonfiction before publishing his first crime novel, “Sackgasse,” in 1982. His novels often addressed social and political issues, including data protection, intelligence services and police investigations. In 1987, he received the Deutscher Krimi Preis for “Sein letzter Fehler.”
