Herbert Rosendorfer

Herbert Rosendorfer (1934–2012) was a German writer and lawyer. After studying law, he worked first as a public prosecutor and later as a judge in Munich and Naumburg. From 1990, he taught Bavarian literary history as an honorary professor at the University of Munich. From the 1960s onward, he published novels, short stories, plays and screenplays, as well as other literary and historical works. He became particularly well known for the novel series *Letters into Chinese History*. Rosendorfer was a member of the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts and the Academy of Sciences and Literature in Mainz. His honors included the Jean Paul Prize and the CORINE honorary award for his life’s work.
