Herbert Heckmann

Herbert Heckmann (1930–1999) was a German writer. Born in Frankfurt am Main, he died in Bad Vilbel. In addition to short stories and novels, he wrote children’s books, cookbooks, and a dictionary of the Hessian dialect. His novel “Benjamin und seine Väter,” published in advance by the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, received the Bremen Literature Prize. Heckmann was co-editor of the journal Neue Rundschau, a freelance contributor to Hessian Broadcasting, president of the German Academy for Language and Literature, and a professor at the Offenbach University of Art and Design.
