Henryk Sienkiewicz (1846–1916) was a Polish writer and journalist. He began his career as a feuilletonist and satirist and later worked as a correspondent in North America and Europe. He became known for historical novels and stories, often centered on Polish history. His major works include the historical trilogy comprising “With Fire and Sword,” “The Deluge,” and “Pan Wołodyjowski,” as well as “Quo Vadis,” which depicts the persecution of Christians under the Roman emperor Nero. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature for his epic writing.
