Henry Miller

Author · 82 books

Henry Miller (1891–1980) was an American writer and painter. After working a variety of odd jobs, he increasingly devoted himself to writing from the mid-1920s onward. He spent the 1930s in Paris among American expatriate writers. His novel *Tropic of Cancer* was first published in English in 1934 and led to a series of legal proceedings in the United States. Miller is regarded as an outsider of modern American literature; his autobiographical works combine realistic elements with partially surreal visions.
