Henriette Valet (1900–1993) was born in Paris and grew up in the Auvergne. Before becoming an author, she worked as a telephone operator. After returning to Paris in 1924, she wrote journalistic and literary texts for workers’ and trade-union periodicals. Her first novel, “Madame 60a,” was published by Grasset in 1934. In 1936, she married the Marxist philosopher and sociologist Henri Lefebvre; together they wrote the novel “Le mauvais temps” (1937). Valet died in Paris in 1993.
