Helmut Kuhn was born in Munich in 1962 and studied history and journalism at Freie Universität Berlin and the Sorbonne in Paris. He worked as a reporter, editor, and freelance writer in New York and Berlin, contributing to publications including Aufbau, mare, Stern, Focus, Die Zeit, the Neue Zürcher Zeitung, and the Jüdische Allgemeine. Kuhn published short-story collections, novels, and nonfiction, and co-authored Murat Kurnaz’s book Five Years of My Life. He received the Hansel Mieth Reportage Prize and the Kunstraum Syltquelle literature fellowship, and took part in the Ingeborg Bachmann Competition.
