Helga Schubert, born in Berlin in 1940, studied psychology at Humboldt University. In the GDR, she worked as a psychotherapist and freelance writer. As press spokesperson for the Central Round Table, she helped prepare the first free elections. After publishing numerous books, she withdrew from the literary public. In 2020, she won the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize for her story “Vom Aufstehen.” The eponymous collection was published by dtv in 2021 and nominated for the Leipzig Book Fair Prize. Her book “Der heutige Tag. Ein Stundenbuch der Liebe” was published in 2023. In 2024, she received the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern State Culture Prize.
