Heinrich Steinfest

Heinrich Steinfest, born in 1961, is a German-language writer. His places of residence have included Albury, Vienna, and Stuttgart. He is known, among other works, as the creator of the one-armed detective Cheng. Steinfest has received the German Crime Prize several times, as well as the Stuttgart Crime Prize and the Heimito von Doderer Literature Prize. In 2016, he won the Bavarian Book Prize for »Das Leben und Sterben der Flugzeuge«. »Ein dickes Fell« was nominated for the German Book Prize in 2006, and »Der Allesforscher« was shortlisted in 2014. »Die Büglerin« was nominated for the Austrian Book Prize in 2018. In 2024, he received the Leo Perutz Prize for »Gemälde eines Mordes«.
