Heiner Boehncke (born 1944) is a literary scholar. He was Professor of General and Comparative Literature at Goethe University Frankfurt and a visiting professor at the Leipzig Institute of Literature. Until 2021, he directed the Rheingau Literature Festival; he also chaired the Lesegesellschaft der Anderen Bibliothek for ten years. Together with Hans Sarkowicz, he published numerous works on the history, literature, and culture of Hesse and conducted research on the work of Hans Jakob Christoffel von Grimmelshausen, among others. Boehncke co-authored a history of Georg Büchner’s family. He is a member of PEN and received the Goethe Plaque of the State of Hesse and, together with Hans Sarkowicz, the Culture Prize of the Main-Kinzig District.
