Hartmut Binder

Hartmut Binder (born 1937 in Schwäbisch Hall) is a German literary scholar and Kafka researcher. He studied Protestant theology and German literature in Tübingen and was professor of German literature at the Ludwigsburg University of Education from 1973 to 2000. He is known for his extensive work on German-language literature in Prague, particularly on Franz Kafka’s life and writings. His publications include the Kafka-Handbuch, Kafkas Welt, Kafkas Verwandlung, Kafka in Paris, Kafkas Wien, and Gestern Abend im Café. He also wrote studies of other authors associated with Prague’s literary culture and of the city’s cultural and social history.
