Harald Weinrich

Harald Weinrich (1927–2022) was a German scholar of linguistics and literary studies. After professorships in Kiel and Cologne, he taught linguistics at Bielefeld University and German as a foreign language in Munich. He was later Professor of Romance Studies at the Collège de France in Paris. His notable publications include “Lethe: The Art and Critique of Forgetting,” “Tempus: Discussed and Narrated World,” and “Knappe Zeit: The Art and Critique of a Limited Existence.” His scholarly work received, among other honors, the Joseph Breitbach Prize, the Sigmund Freud Prize for Scholarly Prose, and the Hanseatic Goethe Prize.
