Harald Haarmann

Harald Haarmann (born 1946) is a German linguist and cultural scholar. He studied general linguistics, philology and prehistory in Hamburg, Bonn, Coimbra and Bangor, earning his doctorate in Bonn and his postdoctoral qualification in Trier. Haarmann taught and conducted research at several German and Japanese universities. From 2003 onward, he served as vice-president of the Institute of Archaeomythology and directed its European branch in Finland. He has published more than 70 books, including “History of Writing,” “The Enigma of the Danube Civilisation” and “In the Footsteps of the Indo-Europeans.” His works have been translated into numerous languages. His awards include the Prix Logos (1999), the Premio Jean Monnet (1999) and the Plato Award (2006).
