Hans-Werner Sinn (born 1948) is a German economist. Until his retirement in 2016, he was Professor of Economics at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, President of the ifo Institute, and Director of the Center for Economic Studies (CES). He held visiting professorships in places including Bergen, Stanford, Princeton, and Jerusalem, and was an honorary professor at the University of Vienna. He also served as president of the International Institute of Public Finance (IIPF) and chair of the Association of German-Speaking Economists (VfS). Sinn published numerous scholarly works and books on economic policy, several of which became bestsellers. He received awards, honorary doctorates, and prizes in Germany and abroad.
