Hans Peter Richter

Hans Peter Richter (1925–1993) was born in Cologne. He studied psychology and sociology and, from 1952, conducted independent research for broadcasting organizations and business enterprises. In 1973, he became a professor of scientific methodology and sociology at the Fachhochschule Darmstadt. Alongside his academic work, he wrote and edited books for adults, young people, and children. He is best known for his 1961 novel for young readers, “Damals war es Friedrich,” about the persecution of Jews under National Socialism. The widely translated book received, among other honors, the Mildred-Batchelder Award, the Sebaldus Youth Book Prize, and the Woodward School Book Award.
