Hans Kruppa, born in Marl in 1952, studied English, American studies and physical education at the University of Freiburg. After completing teacher training, he taught English and physical education at a secondary school for two years before leaving the profession in 1981 to devote himself entirely to writing. He published his first novel in 1976. His work includes poetry, aphorisms, novels, short stories, stories and literary fairy tales. He published more than 100 books, with total sales of over two million copies; some of his works were translated into other languages. He received the Otto Mainzer Prize for his literary work.
