Hamed Abdel-Samad

Hamed Abdel-Samad, born near Cairo in 1972, is an Egyptian-German author and publicist. He studied English, French, Japanese and politics. He worked for UNESCO, at the University of Erfurt’s Department of Islamic Studies, and at the Institute for Jewish History and Culture at the University of Munich. Abdel-Samad was a member of the German Islam Conference and served on the advisory board of the Giordano Bruno Foundation from 2011. He became known in part through the television program “Entweder Broder.” His autobiography, “Mein Abschied vom Himmel” (“My Farewell from Heaven”), attracted considerable attention.
