Hallie Rubenhold, born in 1971 in Los Angeles, is a British historian and author. She studied history at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and the University of Leeds. Her research focuses on the social and women’s history of the 18th and 19th centuries. In 2005, she published “The Covent Garden Ladies: Pimp General Jack and The Extraordinary Story of Harris’s List,” about a London directory of prostitutes published from 1757 to 1795. The BBC documentary “The Harlots Handbook,” presented by Rubenhold, was based on the book and released in 2006. Her book “The Five” won the Baillie Gifford Prize for Non-Fiction in 2019.
