Gregory David Roberts

Gregory David Roberts was born in Melbourne, Australia, in 1952. The Australian writer became known for his partly autobiographical novel *Shantaram*. He began working on the book while serving a prison sentence in Australia. Before becoming a writer, he had been convicted of armed robberies and, after escaping prison, went to Bombay. There, he founded a casting agency for Bollywood productions and a rock band, among other ventures.
