Gottlob Frege

Gottlob Frege (1848–1925), fully Friedrich Ludwig Gottlob Frege, was a German mathematician, logician, and philosopher. From 1874, he taught mathematics at the University of Jena. His Begriffsschrift (1879) and The Foundations of Arithmetic made fundamental contributions to modern logic and the philosophy of language. His work influenced, among others, Bertrand Russell and Ludwig Wittgenstein, and made him an important forerunner of analytic philosophy. Frege died in Bad Kleinen in 1925.
