Gert Ueding

Born in 1942, Gert Ueding studied German literature, philosophy, art history and rhetoric. He earned his doctorate under Walter Jens with a dissertation on Schiller’s rhetoric. Until 2009, he was professor of general rhetoric at the University of Tübingen, and until 2012 he was a visiting professor at the University of St. Gallen. Ueding worked as an essayist and literary critic, contributing among others to the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and Die Welt. He served on several literary juries, including those for the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize and the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade. For many years, he edited the essay series “Promenade.” His publications include “Wo noch niemand war. Erinnerungen an Ernst Bloch” (2016).
