Gerhard Ammerer (born 1956) is a German? historian and legal scholar. He studied history and German at the universities of Innsbruck and Salzburg. In 2000, he completed his habilitation in history at the University of Salzburg and was appointed associate professor there; in 2009, he also completed a habilitation in legal history. He taught Austrian history and served as a lecturer at the university’s Faculty of Law. His research focused on social, cultural and legal history, the history of crime, and the regional history of Salzburg. He was a member of the Commission for Austrian Legal History of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and headed the Center for Gastrosophy. His publications include “Wirtshäuser,” “Das Sternbräu,” and “Schwert und Galgen.”
