George MacDonald

George MacDonald (1824–1905) was a Scottish pastor and writer of the Victorian era. He wrote more than 40 novels, including both realistic works in the Victorian tradition and works of fantasy. His best-known books include *Phantastes* and *Malcolm*. MacDonald is regarded as an important precursor of modern fantasy literature and influenced writers including J. R. R. Tolkien, W. H. Auden, G. K. Chesterton, and C. S. Lewis. Lewis considered MacDonald his literary master.
